W.S. Bill Goree
“The Wood Potter”
Bill is a self-taught wood turner who started selling his creations in May of 2008. He had filled the nick-knack shelves of his extended family and wanted to find another outlet for his creations. Bill started wood turning in June of 2003 with a lathe he received from his father’s estate.
The majority of Bill’s work is created from wood acquired locally. He especially likes to work with burl wood and spalted wood. (Spalting is coloration caused by fungus.) Bill also creates a few pieces by hand carving. The majority of the hand carved pieces are from burl wood gathered in logging areas of central Colorado.
Bill has lived in Tulsa most of his life. He has been married to Maureen for over 21 years and they have two teenage sons. Bill has been a Tulsa Police Officer since January of 1981and his hobby and relaxation is wood turning.
Bill’s creations are on display at The Gallery on Sixth in Tulsa and he frequently exhibits his work at art shows in the Tulsa area. Bill can be contacted at wgoree@cox.net to arrange private showings in his Tulsa studio.
